About Us

Neelashaila college had its humble beginning in the year 1983 with arts, science and later on commerce streams at the intermediate level.the college was accorded government concurrence in three year degree classes in arts & science from the academic session 1987-88 and commerce from the session 1991-92. With the passage of time the college has acquired a place of eminence in the educational horizon of steel city , rourkela both in terms of academic excellence and the state of the art infrastructure. To its credit many students of our college have become university toppers and rank holders over the years in the sambalpur university.

Our students have specially exceled in the fields of games and sports by becoming university champion many a times in the inter college cricket , hockey , football, kabaddi, and atheletics championship organised by sambalpur university . The college has many ambitious plans in the offing which includes opening self financing courses, post graduation courses in job oriented subjects such as geology, earth science , geography etc. The college also intends to open a tribal museum in the near future to acquaint the s.t. students with their culture, heritage and practices.

Our College

Neelashaila Mahavidyaaya was named after the celebrated noveslist Sj. Surendra Mohanty's is popular novel 'Neelashaila' signifying "the abode of lord Jagannath" spread over picturesquely landscaped area of five acres in Jagda, Rourkela. Uniquely located to the close proximity of NIT, Rourkela in the south and koel river in the north, the campus of the college with the lush green, serene atmosphere and divine bearings provides a fitting ambience for academic pursuits where learning really means evolving.

Growing from infancy to excellence, Neelashaila Mahavidyalaya has the credit of being a fullfledged , honours based & UGC [2f & 12b ] listed only degree college in the tribal block of bisra & scheduled district of Sundargarh . It has become a centre of academic excellence in the field of higher education for the last thirty seven years in all the streams like Arts, Science & Commerce having honours teaching facilities in all subjects.
